On May 30th, the Ministry of Transport released national port cargo and container throughput data for January April 2023. From January to April 2023, the total cargo throughput of ports in China reached 5.278 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.6%, including 1.607 billion tons of foreign trade cargo throughput, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%; The container throughput reached 95.43 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%.
According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, the total import and export value of China's goods trade in April this year was 3.43 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.9%. Among them, exports reached 2.02 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%; Import reached 1.41 trillion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%. However, contrary to the booming foreign trade export data, the manufacturing Purchasing Managers'Index (PMI) recorded 49.2 in April, falling below the boom and bust line; In April, the Xinhua Pan Asian Shipping China Domestic Container Freight Comprehensive Index fell both year-on-year and month on month. Against the backdrop of cold and hot trade, Chinese ports still delivered a good "transcript" in April. However, behind the surface prosperity, various ports also noticed changes in the market and sounded the "alarm bell" to face challenges.
